Ruth A. Miller - Communications Director
Ms. Miller was appointed as the Deputy Press Secretary for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Office of Homeland Security and Office of the State Fire Commissioner in January 2008, and became Communications Director in May 2015. From January 2004 until being appointed to PEMA, she worked as a Media Specialist in the PA House of Representatives.
As the agency communications director, her responsibilities include public communications/affairs, website development and administration, newsletters, brochures and all printed material. She responds to press inquiries and acts as the agency spokesperson for day-to-day public relations. Ms. Miller also conducts and assists in the development and administration of training for all public information officers and press secretaries for commonwealth agencies during drill exercises.
Prior to working in state government, Ms. Miller was a news writer and producer at WPMT Fox43 in York, PA from March 1999 to January 2004. During her tenure, WPMT won NATAS Mid-Atlantic Chapter Emmy Awards for Outstanding Single News Broadcast in 2001 and 2002.
She graduated from Elizabethtown College in Lancaster County with a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Corporate Media, and a minor in Spanish. She is a York County native who currently makes her home in Cumberland County.
