Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Free of criminal history that would prohibit you from successfully fulfilling all duties of the position
  • Meet employer-specific qualifications to be hired as a telecommunicator

On-the-Job Training

Counties provide robust telecommunicator training programs that will teach you:

  • How to ask questions and manage 911 calls
  • Local geography
  • Protocols for processing EMS, fire, and law enforcement calls
  • Specialized topics like:
    • CPR
    • Missing persons
    • HAZMAT
    • Aircraft/marine incidents
    • Helping callers with access and functional needs
